Al Jefferson and Rotary Red Socks Wins the Race Across America!
The Sunrise Townsville Rotary Club continues to be a major sponsor of Allan Jefferson, Winner of the 2022 Race Across America RAAM. Allan is a helicopter rescue crewman from Townsville, Australia.
Al Jefferson and Team Jefferson have won the solo category with Al announced as the series winner, crossing the line as the first solo rider, in the Race Across America.
Sponsored the The Rotary Club of Townsville Sunrise, Al Jefferson is an experienced multi-sport athlete who discovered a passion for RAAM after playing a strategic support crew role in the Team Australia 2015 campaign and as a Team Australia Rider in 2017. He has a reputation in the triathlon community as a fierce competitor and with good reason. His list of Ironman races is endless, qualifying and competing in the Ironman World Championships at Kona 8 times.
Al and his team have been sharing Prostate Cancer Awareness throughout the USA by wearing Project Red Socks merchandise and spreading the word about the program.
Prostate cancer, the most commonly detected cancer in Australian males is estimated to be 23% of all new cancers found in males, responsible for 12% of male deaths. If detected early prostate cancer can be treated, significantly increasing the survival rate for this terrible disease.
In June 2024, Allan will again compete in the endurance ride, wearing his special Rotary Red Socks and promoting mental health and prostate cancer awareness during the ride.
